Hey it’ Mike Carroll and this week on Removing Addiction and Healing Mental Health - Jess’s story of her ice and gambling addiction.

Jess is a woman in her 30s who grew up in western Sydney. 

Jess went through years of addiction in her teens and twenties. 

Through rehabilitation and support Jess has now been clean from Ice and gambling for over 5 and half years.

Jess has been on a mission to try and help people struggling through her social media platforms as well as doing outreach in local communities. Sharing her story of addiction and find recovery her way.

On the  28 October 2021, the Herald Sun reporter Stephen Drill said:
 "VICTORIA’S ice scourge is worsening with use in country areas spiking a dramatic 30 per cent over five months, according to the latest comprehensive drug watch report.
 
 Doses per 1000 people a day jumped from about 34.1 to 45.2 – or 32 per cent – across regional Victoria from December 2020 to April this year.
 
 The drug’s use is also rising in Melbourne, climbing 11 per cent over the same period, from 37.1 to 41.2 doses per 1000 people a day.
 
 The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission described methylamphetamine, or ice, use as a “wicked problem” because the damaging drug was both imported by organised crime elements and made locally.
 
 In a bombshell report released on Thursday, the ACIC compares drug use across the world, and found Australians were the secondhighest ice users behind the United States".
